Open House A Great Success
On Mon., Nov. 2nd, Stritt & Priebe, along with sister company VJ Stanley, hosted about 300 customers & vendors at their Rochester location Open House. This was a great opportunity for people to see the new Rochester facility at 595 Hague St., meet our personnel, and have a great lunch.
Many great vendors were on hand, like Watson McDaniel, Trerice, Spence, Apollo, Newco & Keckley. A number of VJ Stanley vendors were on hand also.   Owners Joel Scott & Bill Victor enjoyed being able to meet so many of you! They have been dividing their time between Buffalo & Rochester, getting the second Stritt & Priebe location up & running.
Our new Conestoga covered delivery truck will operate between Buffalo & Rochester regularly, bringing great delivery options to "local" customers.

Stritt & Priebe, Inc. is proud to announce the acquisition of V.J. Stanley, Inc., a Rochester, NY Manufacturers’ Representative and Master Distributor of steam & hydronic products since 1951.  An important business partner of Stritt & Priebe for years, VJ Stanley represents Armstrong pumps, Cemline clean steam generators & domestic hot water heaters, Sondex heat exchangers & more, adding valuable product lines to Stritt & Priebe’s availability. Other Stanley vendors include Nicholson, Spence, John Wood, HO Trerice, Engineered Flexible Products, Watts, Sensus, Lochinvar, Shipco Pump, Thermal Solutions, among others.

Business partners Bill Victor and Joel Scott bought the family-owned Stritt & Priebe, Inc. from Edgar Priebe in 2007. They both had worked there for over 35 years combined. Since their purchase, company sales and territory have more than doubled.

“Our mission,” explains Victor, “is to form long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by utilizing our knowledge, unique talents and cooperative attitudes to serve our customers with regard to quality, service and price. The addition of V.J. Stanley fits right into that mission, with their values of quality products and services, knowledgeable experts and competitive pricing.”

Former VJ Stanley president John Ruffner states, “I have never seen the likes of the synergy that exists between our two companies.  The end result is fantastic.  It will be great going forward under the new partnership.”

“We are thrilled to be able to keep V.J. Stanley as a formidable company in the Western & Central New York area,” says Owner/partner Joel Scott. “We were able to retain all the valuable Stanley employees and we have begun hiring additional key people.”

Owner/partner Bill Victor adds, “We are also excited to announce that we have committed to a new 40,000 sq/ft facility within the city to house both the new VJ Stanley and Stritt & Priebe’s new Rochester branch.”  VJ Stanley products will also be available at Stritt & Priebe’s Buffalo location.

Both Stritt & Priebe and VJ Stanley employees look forward to working closely with you in our expanded capacity. Our partnership with you and with each other will strengthen all our businesses in the coming months & years.

Stritt & Priebe, Inc. is a privately held New York State Corporation established on August 19, 1922 by John W. Priebe and Harry Stritt as a pipe, valve and fitting supply house. The original location of the company was in an old church building on the far west side of Buffalo near the Niagara River. The church, now an official Buffalo landmark, was one of the departure points to Canada on the Underground Railroad prior to the Civil War. In 1992 the company moved to a modern 40,000 square foot facility at 37 Clyde Avenue in Buffalo.

Two more generations of Priebe family ownership followed.  Buffalo changed a lot in the ensuing years and many industrial supply houses came and went. For over 85 years, Stritt & Priebe, Inc. serviced the industrial and institutional community with piping products and steam specialties.

After the retirement of Edgar S. Priebe, new owners Bill Victor and Joel Scott planned for Stritt & Priebe to serve Buffalo and beyond.  The corporate mission is to form long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by utilizing our knowledge, unique talents and cooperative attitudes to serve our customers with regard to quality, service and price. For Stritt & Priebe, "service" has many facets. It starts with a seasoned sales professional taking your call and providing options, answers and commitment to fulfill your requirements. It concludes with the delivery of your order, where and when you want it.

Under the new ownership, Stritt & Priebe's business has consistently & significantly grown! Even in our challenging economy, the company has done well and is stronger than ever before. The principal reason for our success is that every member of the staff recognizes that exceptional customer service is the defining characteristic and the driving force of Stritt & Priebe, Inc. Let us demonstrate for your company how a truly responsive supply house can enhance your operations. We are committed to earning your business!

Post Script: What ever happened to Harry Stritt? He died six months after the start of Stritt & Priebe. For many years people working late at the original building would report hearing him rattling around in the attic or the cellar (taking inventory, no doubt) on cold winter nights.
